Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? It’s important to find coping skills to help manage stress, especially during a move or in the midst of a life event. Here at Compass Self Storage, we aim to make moving as stress-free as possible. However, there are plenty of tips that you can try on your part to reduce stress and prevent a more serious stress response.

Get organized and start small.

Since there are so many parts of life that require organization, many of us struggle with where to start. It can be overwhelming to think about organizing every aspect of your life, so it’s important to start small. You’d be surprised how one thing can snowball into other tasks, and before you know it, you will be organizing much more than you imagined. For example, start by cleaning out one of your closets, and branch off into other areas of your home.

Donate items.

Once you figure out where you want to start your journey to become more organized, it’s time to put aside items you no longer want. Get rid of items that aren’t needed and feel good doing it by donating them to your favorite charitable organization!

Consider Self Storage for other items.

While you are in the process of organizing what to keep and what you’d like to donate, a storage unit near you can help keep everything in order. You also may have items you’d like to keep in storage that you may not use year-round, such as holiday decorations. This can help clear out areas of your home and keep everything clutter-free!

Do a Deep Clean.

Cleaning is another great way to help relieve stress. After you’re feeling more organized, consider doing a deep clean of places you don’t normally clean (such as baseboards, ceiling fans, light fixtures, etc.) Cleaning has been proven to relieve stress, so next time you feel stressed or overwhelmed, grab a sponge and start scrubbing! This can help clear your mind for a while. Jam out to your favorite songs for some extra motivation!

Set patterns to stay organized.

Once you’ve conquered these tasks, create an organization/cleaning schedule. Go a step further and use a weekly or monthly dry erase calendar to help keep yourself accountable. You’ll not only feel good doing these tasks, but you’ll also feel the effects long after they are completed!
